Junk removal in Waterford
Waterford sits east of Modesto on the Tuolumne River. Here's what your garbage service already handles, where it stops, and where to take a load yourself.
Covers ZIP 95386: Waterford.
What your Waterford garbage service already covers
Waterford's garbage is collected by Gilton Solid Waste, and the city runs its own recycling drop-off.
- Two free bulky item pickups a year for residential customers who pay for service, by appointment with Gilton at (209) 527-3781.
- One 96-gallon green organics bin, collected weekly. Set it out by 6 am.
- A city recycling drop-off at the Ball Field lot at the end of A Street, open Monday to Friday, 7 to 3.
Where it runs out
The bulky pickups have limits that catch most cleanouts.
- Wood is capped at 10 pieces, and fencing and treated wood are excluded.
- Only paying residential customers qualify, so renters should check with whoever holds the account.
- The A Street site is for recycling, not furniture, appliances or mixed junk.
Hauling it yourself? Here's where it goes
If you have a truck and the time, self-hauling is the cheapest option. These two take loads from Waterford:
Gilton Resource Recovery, Modesto
800 S. McClure Rd · (209) 527-3781 · Mon–Fri 7:30–4, Sat–Sun 7–4:30. From July 1, 2026: $30 a car load, $50 a pickup or SUV, $20 per mattress, $45 per fridge.
Fink Road Landfill, Crows Landing
4000 Fink Rd · (209) 837-4800 · Mon–Sat 8–4. Electronics are free. No paint, oil, liquids, batteries or fluorescent bulbs. All county garbage has gone here since late 2024.
When it makes sense to call Jake
When it's a fence, a pile of lumber or a mix the bulky program won't take, or when you've used your two pickups. Jake and his crew carry it out and load it, priced by the cubic yard and usually within the week. Anything that still works gets donated.
When calling Jake is the wrong call
If it's a couch or a mattress and you still have a free Gilton pickup this year, use it. Bottles and cans go to the A Street site, and paint or chemicals go to the county's hazardous waste event (Waterford's 2026 date was May 30).
