Junk removal in Oakdale
Jake's Junk Away is based in Oakdale. Before you book anyone, here's what your garbage service already handles, where it stops, and where to take a load yourself.
Covers ZIP 95361: Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home.
What your Oakdale garbage service already covers
Oakdale's trash and recycling are collected by Gilton Solid Waste under a city franchise, and Gilton's local office is right in town at 755 S. Yosemite Ave.
- Yard waste, food scraps, newspaper and cardboard all go in the same gray-and-green recycling toter.
- Gilton offers bulky item pickup by appointment, which it describes as twice a year in most areas. Call (209) 527-3781 to check what your address gets.
- Stanislaus County runs household hazardous waste days in Oakdale. The 2026 dates were March 14 and September 12.
Where it runs out
The toter system is built for a normal week of household trash, not a cleanout.
- Yard waste that doesn't fit in the toter isn't picked up, so the pile from a big trimming weekend can sit for weeks.
- Knights Ferry and Valley Home are outside city limits and follow the county bulky program instead: book at least two weeks ahead, nothing over 6 x 6 x 6 ft, and no wood, fencing or yard waste.
- In town or out, bulky pickup is curbside only, so everything has to be carried out to the street first.
Hauling it yourself? Here's where it goes
If you have a truck and the time, self-hauling is the cheapest option. These two take loads from Oakdale:
Gilton Resource Recovery, Modesto
800 S. McClure Rd · (209) 527-3781 · Mon–Fri 7:30–4, Sat–Sun 7–4:30. From July 1, 2026: $30 a car load, $50 a pickup or SUV, $20 per mattress, $45 per fridge.
Fink Road Landfill, Crows Landing
4000 Fink Rd · (209) 837-4800 · Mon–Sat 8–4. Electronics are free. No paint, oil, liquids, batteries or fluorescent bulbs. All county garbage has gone here since late 2024.
When it makes sense to call Jake
When it won't fit in the toter or your truck, when it's upstairs or at the back of the garage, or when you don't want to wait for a pickup slot. Jake and his crew carry it out and load the trailer, priced by the cubic yard and usually within the week. Anything that still works gets donated.
When calling Jake is the wrong call
If it's one couch and you live inside Oakdale city limits, book your Gilton bulky pickup first. If it's paint, oil or chemicals, it belongs at a county hazardous waste day.
