Junk removal in Hickman
Hickman is unincorporated farm country east of Hughson, so its garbage rules come from the county, not a city. Here's what that covers and where it stops.
Covers ZIP 95323: Hickman.
What Hickman's county garbage service already covers
Hickman is in Stanislaus County franchise Area 3, served by Turlock Scavenger at (209) 668-7274, not Gilton like its neighbors.
- Two bulky item pickups a year under the county program, booked at least two weeks ahead.
- Appliances (doors off), mattresses and water heaters are accepted.
- Items go out after 6 pm the night before, beside a county- or state-maintained road.
Where it runs out
The county program is strict about what qualifies.
- No TVs or monitors, glass, wood, yard waste, construction debris, tires or business items.
- Nothing larger than 6 x 6 x 6 ft, and getting it out to the road can be a long carry from a rural property.
- Only garbage cart subscribers qualify. Bin customers aren't eligible.
Hauling it yourself? Here's where it goes
If you have a truck and the time, self-hauling is the cheapest option. Turlock's transfer station is the closest of these two:
Turlock Transfer Station
1100 S. Walnut Rd, Turlock · (209) 668-6049 · Mon–Fri 8–4, Sat 8–1. From July 1, 2026: $80 a ton with a $45 minimum, $10 per mattress, $24 per TV or monitor.
Fink Road Landfill, Crows Landing
4000 Fink Rd · (209) 837-4800 · Mon–Sat 8–4. Electronics are free. No paint, oil, liquids, batteries or fluorescent bulbs. All county garbage has gone here since late 2024.
When it makes sense to call Jake
When it's wood, yard debris, a shed's worth of mixed junk or anything the county program turns away, or when the road is a long way from the barn. Jake and his crew carry it out and load it, priced by the cubic yard and usually within the week. Anything that still works gets donated.
When calling Jake is the wrong call
If it's an old fridge or a water heater and you're a garbage subscriber, the county pickup will take it with two weeks' notice. Paint, oil and chemicals go to the county hazardous waste facility on Morgan Rd in Modesto.
