Junk removal in Modesto

Modesto is the biggest city Jake covers, and it's split between two garbage companies. Here's what yours already does for free, where it stops, and where to take a load yourself.

Covers ZIPs 95350, 95351, 95354, 95355, 95356, 95357 and 95358.

What your Modesto garbage service already covers

Modesto homes are served by either Bertolotti Disposal or Gilton Solid Waste depending on the street. The city's Haulers & Pickup Schedules page tells you which one is yours.

  • Single-family homes get two curbside bulky pickups a year. Bertolotti customers book at (209) 537-8000; Gilton customers book with Gilton at (209) 527-3781.
  • Free mattress drop-off at the city site, 610 S. Conejo Ave, Thursday to Saturday 8 to noon, up to 10 per trip.
  • A weekly organics cart for yard waste, collected on your regular day.

Where it runs out

The bulky pickup is built for a couch, not a cleanout.

  • Each pickup has size and item limits set by your hauler, so a full garage won't qualify.
  • Household garbage, hazardous waste, stumps, tires, glass, electronics and construction debris are all excluded.
  • The two free pickups are for single-family homes only.

Hauling it yourself? Here's where it goes

Modesto has more self-haul options than anywhere else in the county:

Gilton Resource Recovery

800 S. McClure Rd · (209) 527-3781 · Mon–Fri 7:30–4, Sat–Sun 7–4:30. From July 1, 2026: $30 a car load, $50 a pickup or SUV, $20 per mattress, $45 per fridge.

Bertolotti Transfer Station

231 Flamingo Dr · (209) 537-4147 · Open Mon–Sat, call for hours. $92 a ton with a $35 minimum. Appliances and TVs $25 each plus weight. Mattresses free, up to 10.

When it makes sense to call Jake

When it's construction debris, electronics, a stump or more than a bulky pickup allows, when you've used your two pickups, or when it's upstairs or deep in the garage. Jake and his crew carry it out and load it, priced by the cubic yard and usually within the week. Anything that still works gets donated.

When calling Jake is the wrong call

If it's just mattresses, the free city drop-off on S. Conejo Ave is hard to beat. If it's one piece of furniture and you still have a bulky pickup left this year, book it.

Checked October 2026 against Bertolotti Disposal, Gilton Solid Waste, City of Modesto and Stanislaus County sources. Rules, dates and prices change, so confirm with the operator before you go.
